Two very different interpretations of a goat. The top one is painted from a photograph and the second one is a naive style. I actually find it easier to paint the more figurative version. But a part of me says although its expressive it doesn't have as much originality as I'd like. I am focused on reducing the goat to its simplest possible forms. I have painted landscapes for many years and a good landscape has a great deal of simplifications of the forms. This was an early experiment. It was hugely trying to shed everything I had worked so hard for and start on a new journey and the potential to be misunderstood is huge. We have all heard people say, 'it looks as though a child could have painted that!' So this leap has taken a huge amount of courage for me.
